Rise & Shine Walk / Run

Please join JANES for the Rise & Shine Walk/Run which benefits the Rise School of Corpus Christi! 1K walk and 5K run. Registration is at 8:00am. Run begins at 8:45am and walk begins at 9:00am. Enjoy live music, food, games and family activities! Fun for the entire family!!!

The Rise School, which opened in August of 2007, provides the highest quality early childhood education to all young children including those with developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome, Stroke, Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy. Among the excellent services provided at the school are: 3:1 child/instructor ratio; music, occupational, physical & speech therapists on staff; and scholarships for students. There are currently 25 families on the waiting list to get into the Rise School. They are eagerly awaiting a place for their child to shine, so we are quickly trying to raise funds and preparing to open another classroom during this school year. The Rise School is a privately funded, not-for-profit organization that receives the vast majority of its funding from grants and private donations.

We're so excited... we're having our first JANES Christmas celebration @ Chik Nite this December 4 @ 7 pm.

Look for more of these one-night inspirational, practical and FUN evenings throughout the year to encourage and equip you to reflect God in your world - in your workplace, through your God-given purpose, in the church, in your marriage, in your parenting, in your friendships, etc.

This first night will be focused on how to celebrate the holidays with Christ's peace in the midst of the Christmas chaos! Come take a short break to be refreshed before everything gets crazy!

A Christmas celebration just for chiks - a little chocolate and a lot of fun and inspiration for the season! And some fun surprises you don't want to miss!

Judah Fest & Car Wash!

JANES and the MOB are teaming up to host a car wash in order to raise funds for Judah Fest! The car washes will be held at 2 locations:

CVS on the Island
CVS at Staples/Everhart
August 16th
10 AM - 4 PM

JudahFest!

Judah Hoehne is an extraordinary man with an extraordinary vision ... a mission truly sent by God. You see, Judah has Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy, which is a disease that is fatal and has no cure. The prognosis for someone with Duchenne's M.D. is a life to the age of 18. Judah is now 23! He gives all of the credit for his "long" life so far to his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He also says that without the Lord none of this could be possible. Judah justs wants to show the love of the Lord on a grand scale before his time on earth is done.

With that, Judah had a vision to bring a concert to Corpus Christi, Texas to reach the world for Christ. He shared his vision with others and was told to pray. He prayed, but did not know how to start something of this magnitude. This of course has changed! During a revival at Bay Area Fellowship, the Lord began to press his heart to pursue this idea once again. During the altar call, Pastor Bil Cornelius asked for those who wanted to freely give their lives to Christ & who wanted to do His will for their lives to come up to the front. Judah did not go up right away, but the feeling to go up front kept persisting. So he did what any respectable wheelchair bound person would do, he got his dad to wheel him up to the front.

While Judah is still on this earth he wants to share his love for God on a grand scale. The term "JudahFest" is derived from from the Hebrew word "Judah" which means praise! All praise and glory goes to our awesome God!

JudahFest is a free concert to be held in Corpus Christi, TX on September 6th, 2008 at 6pm at Cole Park Amphitheater by the ocean.

The featured artists are: Dove award nominee Group 1 Crew, and Wavorly bringing their radio hit "Praise and Adore." Also, with special guests: White Wash and Ash.

The vision is to not only have a great concert, but to tell those who don't know Him about Christ, and to get them plugged into healthy local churches. This is the first of many outreaches to follow. We plan to put on many, many, more to include other musical artists and speakers.

JudahFest is a free concert, but the cost to put it on is not. Projected expenses are between $8,000 - $12,000. We are over halfway there already ... people are opening their hearts to help us share the Good News of Jesus Christ with all of Corpus Christi! JANES Event: JANES Hooks Night!

We're having a night of fun at our local Whataburger Field for JANES Hooks Night!

C'mon out & join us!

We'll be meeting there in the grass "berm" area at the far side of the field (outfield).
Wear your JANES shirts (or BAF shirts) so we're all recognizable. The MoB will be there too...

Challenge: Come one, come all JANES!

Let's beat the MoB!!!

Our next great event is The First Annual Rise & Shine Walk to support The Rise School of Corpus Christi on Saturday, February 23rd @ 8 am.

It's a 1K/5K Walk at Cole Park with fun, games, & entertainment to follow the walk.

If you don't know about The Rise School, it's a privately-funded, wonderfully positive early childhood education program for children with developmental disabilities, such as Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, & other developmental delays.
The program serves children from the ages of 18 months to 6 years.

Our wonderful BAF music director & guitar player, Joey Davila & his equally-talented wife, Gloria have an absolutely beautiful son, Jaden, who has Down's Syndrome. Jaden benefits from this school, as do many other CC children with developmental challenges. The Rise School works to minimize the challenges of such disablities for these young children while focusing on maximizing & developing their abilities.

Such a great organization deserves our focus & attention. We've challenged the MOB (Men of Bay Area Fellowship) to come out & bring big numbers to help support this school. Now we've got to make sure they don't beat us!

I will also be happily accepting registration forms & fees at the Guest Services desk at church on weekends before the event. Registration fee is $25 per person or $50 per family (2-4 people).

Deadline to register at church is next weekend! You may still register by mail or at Baby & Belly until Feb. 20th. Late registration will also be accepted on the day of the walk for an additional $5.

This having been my first event since awesome Janel handed over the reigns, I felt I had a lot to live up to. I'm so encouraged by all your wonderful comments. My team & I hope to bring you more wonderful events in the near future!

Welcome Robin, our upcoming Events Coordinator! She has a bright, caring, and creative spirit, and I know that she'll be an incredible example of a leader. Look for her over the next few months to take over for me as I prepare for the next season in life.

We're also happy to welcome Lauren and Allison as the active events co-coordinators. They've come to us with lots of exciting and creative ideas for active, outdoor events I know JANES of all types will enjoy. Allison and Lauren are sweet, genuine ladies who have a heart for actively experiencing life.

Please thank these ladies each and every time you see them for their dedication and willingness to serve. I know they'll be assets to reaching new JANES for Christ!

Hello E-Team lovelies!

I can't believe the Ropes Course is almost here! Hooray! I have some awesome news for all of you!

1. Autumn Featherkile coordinated Bunco night, attended by 6 ladies, and I've heard great things about it. Michell Gohlke hosted this event, and we want to thank both ladies for their willingness to serve in this way! Way to rock!

2. We have lots of ladies who've RSVPed for the Ropes Course (quickly approaching, Nov. 17th), and many of whom haven't attended a previous Ropes Course. Allison Knight has offered to photograph this event for us, and I'm excited for her to serve us and the new JANES! Woo-hoo!

3. Robin McNaueal has graciously accepted the offer of being the E-Team assistant, and soon taking over as the E-Team coordinator. Her energetic, enthusiastic spirit will take the E-Team to new and exciting places, and I'm so grateful God has provided her at this time! YAY ROBIN! I'll be moving to Spain in May, and it's absolutely a relief to know that JANES' events are in such capable and creative hands.

4. The MoB, or Men of Bay Area, are beginning a grass-roots effort to reach the other half of Bay Area's adults. Let all the men you know know about what they're up to by sharing the link with them.

5. Our last leadership meeting of 2007 is coming up next Thursday, Nov. 15th. We'll meet @ Jeannie DeLaGarza's home. We'd like to offer help setting up and cleaning up, as well as providing refreshments, so if you're interested in any aspect, please let me know. This will be a question and answer meeting, and Robin and I will be there to let you know how we can use your gifts on E-Team, as well as to answer any questions you may have relating to JANES. Please ponder any of these, and meet us there!

A philosophy I hold about leaders is that they are able to show where they need support. This means showing vulnerabilities. Today I want, no, I feel led, to share one of mine with you.

One thing I've noticed over the last few months is that when I begin to feel particularly anxious about a specific area, it seems to quickly worsen. As Pastor Bil preached, I'm magnifying my problem. However, once I get over trying to figure it all out myself, and I just let God in on what I need (since He already knows anyway) I start to feel God leaning over my shoulder, whispering. And when I follow in obedience (even when I don't really want to), He rewards me with a resolution that's way beyond my expectations. I frequently used to be that doubting Thomas (and in some instances, I am a doubting Thomas still), needing to touch the scars myself to know He's real; I used to be completely skeptical of people who'd say things like, "Pray about it. You'll hear Him." Honestly, truthfully - it's real.

Once I'm willing to humble myself, in front of Him, in front of my coworkers, my family, my friends, or whomever, He's willing to begin the process of fixing the messes I've created. I'm so thankful for that Grace, and for His uncompromising love. So, I pray for each of you to find that area you are passionate in, and serve God 110% through it. Even when faced with a hurdle that seems particularly unpleasant, I pray that obedience to Him who loves through all, in spite of all, will win. And you will be rewarded with blessings beyond all imagination.

Here's an incredibly powerful passage from Ephesians 3, verses 14-21.
"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."

BOOM! It's an Expo-losion!

Hello ladies!

The E-team has some great things happening!

Four of the five JANES are paid for, we have had all our bags donated, our wigs are in, and we are listening hard for God's will to be shared. This Expo will be amazing, and I pray that it leads to a revolution in the way people look at women's ministry.

Today we found some great fabric @ Target that we'll use on our JANES cutouts. If you aren't familiar, we're cutting these out of MDF and they'll be painted hot pink. A few of these JANES will feature mosaic glass which will spell out JANES, and others two will be "blingin'" with sparkling jewels in browns and greens. If you have some sparkling jewels (necklaces or bracelets) you'd be willing to let us borrow, please let me know.

The fabric pictured will be used in different ways on each JANE - as a belt, as a scarf, as a headband, etc. This unifying fabric will represent the way that though we all have unique personalities, characteristics, life styles, and experiences, we all have one thing in common - His grace and unyielding love!

We're still seeking a few things, so if you're looking to help, check out the previous post. Also, if you can help spread the word about the Expo, please let Alisa know.

Last, but most importantly, if you could add JANES and the leadership to your prayer, we could sure use it! Thanks ladies!

Pastor Bil always talks about making an "ask" of ourselves, so I'm prayerfully requesting your assistance. Let me know if you have these items or know someone who'd be willing to give them to us.

To lend (or donate as the lender/donor desires)
1. hot pink, lime green, white and chocolate brown balloons (need 50 total, with mostly hot pink)

2. curling ribbon in hot pink, lime green, white, and chocolate brown

3. Fabric tablecloths (especially those in the above colors) (please label if you'd like returned)

4. 6 Wooden easels (please label so we can return)

5. 9 pieces of black or white foam poster board

Lord, Let Us Shine!

Hi beautiful ladies!

I am so excited about the things God has planned for the women of Bay Area Fellowship, of Corpus Christi, and the women around the world. Thank you for to using your God-given gifts to support the E-Team! We are getting ready for our JANES Expo, which is fast approaching. With a color scheme of hot pink, brown, lime green, and white, we're sure to catch the ladies' eyes. Then we want to capture their interests with our Bevies, our Bible studies, and our other outreach opportunities.

The E-team power word is SHINE. We as the E-Team work together to create and plan events which allow our ladies to shine, reflecting God's light to those around them. Our hope is that the women leave our events refreshed, renewed, and ready to let God's light SHINE everywhere they go.

I know that God will bless this ministry, and I am prayerfully seeking His will.
